What is the Remote Unlock?
Modern BMW models (Built after 06/2020) are equipped with new Bosch MDG1 DMEs. Unfortunately these were released with a new encryption which locked the software. Autotuner's new Remote Unlock process safely removes this lock at their secure facility. Once returned, the ECU can be read and written via the OBD port using the appropriate tool.

- Why is a Remote Unlock needed on MDG1?
- Bosch closed earlier vulnerabilities on the MDG1 generation, so certain software versions are fully locked. Remote Unlock is a controlled, off-car procedure that preserves the method's integrity and enables future OBD read/write.
- How long does it take?
- Turnaround is typically 7-14 working days door-to-door once shipped, depending on carrier and queue.
- Is pricing fixed and tied to a specific tool?
- Pricing is fixed for single and twin ECUs, Tuning will be an extra charge on top. The unlock enables OBD access by other tools but we recommend to stick with Autotuner
- What if the parcel is delayed or lost?
- We ship with tracked, insured carriers and share tracking both ways. Your ECU is handled in a dedicated workflow from removal to refit.
- Does every update require a Remote Unlock?
- No—some DMEs can still be serviced by OBD/Bench depending on software level. We'll test your ECU to advise the correct path.
- What happens after unlock?
- Your ECU returns ready for OBD read/write. We back-up, calibrate, verify on-road/rollers, and provide aftercare.
Shipping & Packaging
Please place the ECU in an anti-static bag (if available), pad on all sides, and use a sturdy box with your contact details inside. We'll label and dispatch via our carrier. If you're sending an ECU to us first, address it to Evolve Technik, Bayswater North (HQ) and include your VIN and return details.
